When we started Chariot, the value proposition was simple — to make giving with your DAF as easy as giving with a credit card.

The current way to give with a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) took more than 15 steps with multiple redirects:

In the world of payments, every step you add to the payment process, the more likely people are to drop off. By simplifying a 15-step process to just 3 steps, we could substantially increase DAF donor conversion rates, potentially channeling billions more to charity.

What we didn’t expect was all the fruitful offspring that would come from moving DAF payments online. This post will explore one of those: Relationship Building

Building Relationships with DAF donors

The Current Process – Not Like This

The current process of receiving DAF gifts is analogous to receiving an unexpected Amazon package. A donor submits a grants from their DAF portal and after a couple of days (or weeks) a check appears at the nonprofit’s mailing address with little to no information about the donor.

There is little understanding of why you got it and who sent it.
